Of course you are not confused. I just wrote that, if the original poster was going to be going deeper into neural networks, that some of the terminology gets used differently by different people. Please, chill. No one is questioning your expertise or ever has.
I'm sure the original poster will find your list of alternatives to NN's very helpful.
