Hello,
Thank you very much for your e-mail.
AlertIf is perfectly reliable if you use it properly.
But many people have trouble with it because it has duplicate alert filtering logic built-in.
For those people, it may be easier to use just PlaySound function that just plays the sound
without any "inside" logic:

As for speech synthesis it depends on voice selected but majority of voices
use pre-recorded phoneme samples so it does not really take as much CPU as
one may think.

I use pre-record sounds in benefit of processing speed.
Say() uses the system voice processor.I believe it should be slower than playing an .wav (file copied to RAM and played by the sound chipset via DMA, minimal processor involved).
But I do not know, never tested it and compared the results.
As I trade intra-day and my alerts usually mean that something is wrong, I do not want to "overload" the system and the AFL processing.
Just a thought.

Hello,
I personally recommend using speech synthesis instead of (or apart from) simple sound alerts. We have Say() function in AFL and can easily take advantage of many benefits of speech synthesis. Isn't it better to hear detailed, custom tailored message instead of just plain beep or other pre-recorded sound?
Amibroker can speak ;-)
