I think ROC() is returning an array with the first value set to Null, so the StDev() call doesn't have BarCount-1 values to use. Also, ROC() has an optional third parameter for returning negative changes as negative numbers. It shouldn't matter in a StDev calc, but I always turn it on just to be safe. Try,
StDev( ( ROC( eq, 1, true )), BarCount-2 );
