Separate monitors work nice for me and I don't think you will regret it. They take a bit more space than a single large one but give you the advantage of being able to move them around and turn them so they face you. You can use one in vertical position for editing code or writing documents.

Very large HiRes monitors are expensive, a lot of money in one basket so to say. If it fails you have nothing.
Smaller ones are cheap and often sit in a corner doing nothing.

You may have a problem finding an off-the-shelf computer that drives four monitors. Some warranties may be voided if you open the case to add another video card, so you may have to use an external USB video cards. They may be a little slower but for trading they should be fine.
