[amibroker] Re: Floating Point Arithmetic

Tomasz,

I think as a businessman it would certainly be reasonable for you to have a premium support tier for these kinds of questions. If I can make an additional suggestion, it might also save AB support effort if there was documentation of these do's and don'ts. In this case, your answer about pointers leaving functions looks helpful since I've wrapped all the AFL function calls and I return the pointers from the wrappers. The restriction you describe wasn't obvious to me, since shared pointers generated in other ways can be passed around, from everything I've read. In general, good documentation could say, "The pointers returned by AmiBroker are like X pointers but not like Y pointers."

In earlier correspondence, I asked for documentation about do's and don'ts for this, asked about restrictions on using AB generated pointers, posted examples of how I was wrapping them, etc. At the time, neither you nor Marcin pointed me to any documentation, you claimed there were only two simple rules to using the pointers and didn't warn against wrapping the function calls and returning the pointers. If documentation had existed, perhaps a lot of time could have been saved? I know I've spent huge amount of time tracking this down.
