Since this group is more likely to be running multi-screens / multi-monitor ("Once you go multi and big, you never go back") than most, I thought I would share my experience with a tool I stumbled upon this week.
All I can say is that this thing called "Fences" by Stardock is a real life changer for me. You don't need the extra bonus software either. Just the Fences for $9 bucks is awesome.
If you are like me, you end up with so many desktop icons…. Files, program links, internet link icons all over the desktop. Then when things get out of hand, you use windows stuff like…
- Auto-arrange icons
- Align icons to grid
- And various sort selections etc.
Not to mention when you turn off one of your monitors, stuff on that one goes somewhere else either temporarily or permanently.
But what ends up happening is that stuff you were working with that maybe you had together in one area of your desktop, gets paced who knows where. I spend a lot of time scanning with my eyes on my desktop monitors looking for stuff. You can setup these "fences" for types, current projects, subject… and best of all you can sort (and change sorting criteria at anytime) within any "fence".
