Hello, LOs!
I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday weekend. Since the weather was in the mid-50s on Monday, my wife and I drove up from Brooklyn to New York's Hudson Valley to visit some friends and enjoy a little nature. These friends just bought a house in Beacon, so of course I spent the next half hour asking them to describe everything that happened during the mortgage process.
For them, it all started with their financial advisor. That's simply mostly because he was their first point of contact. They asked him how much house they could afford and where to get preapproved for a mortgage. His financial firm had a relationship with CrossCountry Mortgage, so that's where they went to get a mortgage. Had our friends spoken to a real estate agent first, they probably would have found a lender and LO through them, they said. It's not like they had any brand allegiances or knew how to evaluate one mortgage lender's services or products over another's.
That makes me wonder – LOs, what are your best non- real estate agent sources of purchase business? I've heard of purchase leads coming from divorce lawyers, accountants, funeral home directors and local rec league coaches. Let me know anonymously at jkleimann@housingwire.com.
