Brendan Lee clears up some mysteries of Bitcoin

Hello Firsato,

Charles Miller recently finished the first offering of Bitcoin SV Academy, the introductory course on Bitcoin Theory. Charles had some questions, so he rang up Bitcoin Association Training and Development Manager Brendan Lee to discuss some of them for this week's CoinGeek Conversations.

For one, Charles got curious about what exactly goes on when an ordinary user makes a small transfer of Bitcoin from one wallet to another. Using a block explorer, Brendan walked Charles through the entire process using a transaction involving two wallets belonging to Charles.

He and Charles also discussed whether Bitcoin transactions are any more intangible than payments in conventional financial systems. Brendan says Satoshis don't exist except as a record on the public ledger, and when we perform a transaction, we can assert ownership over this record and redistribute its contents.

"But for the first time in history, we're able to do that using a digital medium in a way that can't be duplicated or undone", Brendan says. "And that's the unique aspect of Bitcoin and I think is what actually does make them almost a tangible thing."

Get to know more about how Bitcoin transactions work and the Bitcoin SV Academy in this week's CoinGeek Conversations.
