Another round of extensions have been issued for the foreclosure and eviction moratoriums on government-insured mortgages, pushing the deadline back by an additional three months, according to a new edict from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The new timeline moves the moratorium's expiration date to June 30 from March 31, marking the second time it has been extended since President Biden took office.
Additionally, an extension has been granted for homeowners requesting initial COVID-19-related forbearance from their mortgage servicers, also prolonged by three months until June 30.
“As President Biden has made clear, it is urgent that we help homeowners throughout the nation who are struggling financially from this unprecedented national emergency,” said Matthew Ammon, acting secretary of HUD. “The steps we are taking today will provide both immediate relief to those in desperate need of assistance and help more homeowners keep their homes and resume their payments when the pandemic subsides.”
