Hello LOs,
The numbers are ugly. In June, inflation reached a 40-year high of 9.1%. Mortgage rates are climbing back up to 6%. And thousands of mortgage industry jobs are being shed every week.
It's undoubtedly a challenging climate, but there are some banks, nonbanks and brokerages that are hiring.
In Tuesday's edition of LendingLife, I posted some open positions in the mortgage market and also asked readers to share news of other available jobs. I have never received so many replies.
WesBanco Bank, the second-largest bank headquartered in West Virginia, after United Bank, is among the firms hiring. Founded in 1870, the bank is prepared for the mortgage downturn, said its vice president, Rick Trew.
"We didn't go out and hire everybody we possibly could," Trew said. "We maintained our stability during the last several years, that's what set us apart."
With more than 200 branches in West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania Kentucky and Indiana, Trew said WesBanco is focused on purchase and the construction business, which is why the firm is able to expand.
