Economic reports in the week ahead - The political showdown over the government debt ceiling is likely to ramp up next week. While U.S. government shutdowns or debt ceiling battles in the past have had no consistent impact on the S&P 500 Index itself, certain stocks are sensitive to the heightened focus on government spending and underperformed during debt limit showdowns. With that in mind, the list of companies deriving more than 95% of their income from government contracts includes Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII), Mercury Systems (NASDAQ:MRCY), Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT), Oak Street Health (NYSE:OSH), Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC), Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE:SAIC), Booz Allen Hamilton Holding (NYSE:BAH) and CACI International (NYSE:CACI). Outside of the DC drama, economic reports of note due out include updates on durable orders, consumer confidence, pending home sales, GDP and construction spending. Corporate events to watch include a key earnings report from Micron (NASDAQ:MU), a hardware event for Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and a timely investor conference for TotalEnergies (NYSE:TTE).

IPO watch: IPOs expected to start trading during the week include Allvue Systems (ALVU) on September 29 and Olaplex (OLPX) on September 30. Warby Parker (WRBY) is scheduled to starts trading via a direct listing on September 30. The analyst quiet period ends on DoubleDown Interactive (NASDAQ:DDI) on September 27 to free up analysts to post ratings.
M&A
M&A tidbits: Shareholders vote on the GP Strategies Corporation (NYSE:GPX)-Learning Technologies Group, Cimarex Energy (NYSE:XEC)-Cabot Oil & Gas (NYSE:COG) and Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM)-Five9 (NASDAQ:FIVN) deals. The Five9 deal is at risk due to a Department of Justice probe.
Dividends

Dividend watch: Companies forecast to boost their dividend payout include Starbucks S(BUX) to $0.50 from $0.45, American Express (NYSE:AXP) to $0.46 from $0.43, Honeywell (NASDAQ:HON) to $0.98 from $0.93, General Mills (NYSE:GIS) to $0.53 from $0.51 and Bank OZK (NASDAQ:OZK) to $0.29 from $0.285.

Analysis
Electric stuff: Lucid Group (NASDAQ:LCID) may stay in focus with investors watching the electric vehicle sector this week with the company holding a production preview events at its Advanced Manufacturing Plant (AMP-1) factory in Casa Grande. Invited guests will be able to observe the production processes for the Lucid Air and take a deep dive into Lucid's advanced EV technology with leading engineers. It will also be another busy week for electric truck developments with Sequoia-backed Embark Trucks continuing with its autonomous demonstrations, self-driving tech company Aurora (NASDAQ:RTPY) set to host analysts in Dallas on September 28 and TuSimple (NASDAQ:TSP) demonstrating its next-gen vehicle in Tuscon, Arizona on September 30.
Events

Corporate events: Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) holds it annual Gaming Developer Day. Bank of America thinks the event could be a share price catalyst with potential updates from the social media giant on gaming platform innovations and products anticipated. Other big investor events during the week include strategy updates from TotalEnergies (TTE), Hain Celestial (NASDAQ:HAIN) and Keurig Dr Pepper (NASDAQ:KDP). Conference schedule: Recode's Code Conference is one of the bigger tech conferences of the year. The list of notable speakers for this year's event includes Salesforce's (NYSE:CRM) Marc Benioff, WarnerMedia (NYSE:T) CEO Jason Kilar, Waymo (NASDAQ:GOOG) Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos and AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) CEO Lisa Su. Tesla and SpaceX (SPACE) Chief (NASDAQ:TSLA) Elon Musk is also due to give a talk, although the timing is not known at the time of publication. Other conferences of note the week ahead include the Cantor Virtual Global Healthcare Conference, the BTIG Inaugural Cannabis Conference, the Bank of America Future Car Conference and The MedTech Conference.

Notable annual meetings: Annual meetings of note include Smith & Wesson Brands (NASDAQ:SWBI) and General Mills (GIS) on September 28, as well as XpresSpa Group (NASDAQ:XSPA) on September 30 and Elastic N.V. (NYSE:ESTC) on October 1.

Barron's mentions: The cover story breaks down ways for investors to play the dawning of the golden era of medicine. Explosive change in the ability to diagnose, treat, and even cure many debilitating diseases are expected to lead to big gains in the pharma sector. Acceleron Pharma (NASDAQ:XLRN), Ascendis Pharma (NASDAQ:ASND), Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ALNY), Editas Medicine (NASDAQ:EDIT), BioCryst Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:BCRX), Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) and Argenx (NASDAQ:ARGX) are some of the companies with notable callouts.
