Buffett/Munger reunion is just one week away

A look at the upcoming Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting, which won't have any shareholders but will have Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger sitting together to answer questions.

VIEW IN BROWSER | SUBSCRIBE FRI, APR 23, 2021 WARREN BUFFETT WATCH The reunion is one week away Berkshire Hathaway's 2021 annual shareholders meeting will be held next Saturday, May 1.   Like last year, there won't be any shareholders present due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.   Unlike last year, however, Charlie Munger will be there.   In his letter to shareholders in late February, Buffett revealed the meeting will be held in Los Angeles so the 97-year-old Munger doesn't have to travel to Omaha.   Munger will be sitting on stage with Buffett throughout the 3 1/2-hour question period.   "I missed him last year and, more important, you clearly missed him."       Vice-chairmen Ajit Jain and Greg Abel will also be there.   (This week, the big shareholder advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services recommended that Berkshire shareholders withhold votes for the members of the company's compensation committee because it's "unclear" if Abel and Jain's pay is tied to Berkshire's performance. They each received $16 million in salary and $3 million in bonuses in 2020 and 2019. Susan Decker, David Gottesman, Walter Scott Jr., and Meryl Witmer are on the compensation committee.)   Like last year, CNBC's Becky Quick will be asking the questions, with many coming from among those submitted by email to BerkshireQuestions@cnbc.com.   And as in recent years, Yahoo Finance will be livestreaming at https://finance.yahoo.com/brklivestream.   Q&A begins at 1:30 PM ET, with the formal shareholder meeting scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM ET.   There will certainly be more previews on the way in the coming week, but some are already hitting the web.   The pro-renewable energy group Energy and Policy Institute looks at the shareholder proposal calling for Berkshire to "publish an annual assessment addressing how the Company manages physical and transitional climate-related risks and opportunities." Berkshire's board opposes the proposal saying that while it "recognizes the importance of responsibly managing climate-related risks," the company's decentralized structure makes a single corporate assessment unnecessary and "inconsistent with Berkshire's culture." It argues that on their own, subsidiary managers are "already making sound climate-related decisions." A Forbes contributor writes on "What to Expect from the 2021 Berkshire Shareholder Meeting."

And on Monday, Yahoo Finance's Andy Serwer will host a video event featuring a panel of Buffett watchers discussing what they expect to see at Saturday's meeting.

BERKSHIRE'S TOP U.S. STOCK HOLDINGS - April 23, 2021

 

 

Berkshire's top holdings of disclosed publicly-traded U.S. stocks by market value, based on today's closing prices.

 

Holdings are as of December 31, 2020 as reported in Berkshire Hathaway's 13F filing on February 16, 2021, except for Apple, Bank of America, and U.S. Bancorp, which also include shares held as of December 31, 2020 as disclosed in New England Asset Management's 13F filing on February 16, 2021.

 

In addition to U.S. stocks, shares held as of December 31, 2020 of China's BYD, as listed in Buffett's 2020 letter to shareholders, are included. The price of those shares in U.S. trading is used to approximate the current market value of the position. The value of the stake as a percentage of the company's market value is fixed at what was listed as of December 31, 2020 in the letter.
