More record highs for Berkshire shares Both classes of Berkshire Hathaway's stock closed at new record highs this week.
The Class B shares rallied by 3.1% today, and 5.3% on the week, to close at $253.15.
The record close for the A shares was on Wednesday at $381,680, although today's 3.1% advance (4.7% this week) brought them back to just $80 below that level at the close. (They did lose half that gain in after-hours trading of one share.)
Since their pandemic closing low of $162.13 on March 23, Berkshire's B shares are up a bit more than 56%.
MS raises price target Morgan Stanley has raised its target price for Berkshire's B shares to $270 from $248, Reuters reported early yesterday.
The new target would be a 6.7% gain from tonight's close.
Policyholders accuse GEICO of holding back on pandemic refunds Berkshire Hathaway's GEICO auto insurer is accused of deceptively marketing its "Giveback" program last April that gave policyholders discounts as the pandemic kept drivers off the roads, reducing accident claims.
Reuters reports a federal judge in Chicago ruled yesterday that Illinois drivers may proceed with a proposed class action suit that will try to show GEICO violated the state's consumer fraud law.
The insurer offered policyholders $2.5 billion of credits, including 15% off renewals from April to October. That averages to $150 per policy. The suit, however, alleges GEICO's competitors gave larger refunds and accuses the company of misleading its customers into thinking it was passing on all its savings from reduced driving.
Last year, GEICO paid out claims amounting to a bit more than 74% of the premiums it collected, its lowest loss ratio since 2007.
Reuters says neither side responded to requests for a comment.
NetJets gets set to go supersonic Berkshire Hathaway's NetJets has obtained the right to purchase 20 supersonic AS2 business jets from Aerion, reports Reuters.
Forbes says at the jet's list price, the order is valued at $2.4 billion.
In 2015, NetJets competitor Flexjet announced a firm order for 20 of the jets.
There's been no supersonic passenger air travel since the Concorde was retired in 2003.
Aerion plans to begin production of the jets, which can travel at 1,000 miles per hour, in 2023.
The company will also develop a supersonic flight training academy in collaboration with Berkshire's FlightSafety International.
The CEO of Boeing-backed Aerion told a conference in January 2020 that the "business jet market is just ripe for disruption" with only a 10% increase in travel speed in 60 years.
Tom Vice said the jet will be "boomless," with its sonic boom bouncing up from a dense layer of the atmosphere so that "on the ground you don't hear it."
