Consumer education is basically the preparation of an individual to be capable of making informed decisions when it comes to purchasing products. The same holds true for financial literacy when it comes to making informed decisions about all sorts of money matters that have impact on your life, from buying a home to getting the right insurance polices or building a retirement portfolio.
And let's be honest: It takes time and effort to effectively develop various financial skills, including personal finance management, budgeting and investing. It can be a trial-and-error-type process where you learn from your mistakes. Once you do, you will have a solid foundation of a relationship with money.
But always know that mistakes do happen, especially when it comes to money. In fact, even very savvy financial experts have made money mistakes they have regretted.
To that point, CNBC personal finance reporter Jess Dickler spoke with several members of the CNBC Financial Advisor Council and they shared their greatest money mistakes, and what they ultimately learned from those tough experiences.
