This one is from an esteemed source: Robert Whaley, who invented the Volatility Index (VIX) in 1993, wrote to the SEC in support of Grayscale's effort to turn their Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) into an ETF. Whaley made a familiar argument: that because the SEC approved a bitcoin futures ETF, it must be comfortable approving a pure-play bitcoin ETF. Never mind the SEC itself has already noted the distinction when it approved a bitcoin futures ETF last year. The SEC has until July to give a thumbs up or down on this. After six years of delays, mainland China and Hong Kong investors will be permitted to trade eligible ETFs listed on each other's exchanges through the use of local securities firms or brokerages. |
