Two thousand financial advisors recently attended the Exchange ETF conference in Miami Beach. The #1 issue: what do I tell my clients about their bond portfolios? Is the old 60/40 stock/bond ratio finally dead, for real? What is it being replaced with? Join me on ETF Edge this Monday at 1:00 PM ET when my guest will be Jon Maier, Chief Investment Officer, Global X ETFs. Besides ETFs, Global X also runs model portfolios. Can you create an income-focused equity portfolio to replace bonds? Jon says you can. He will discuss alternatives to bonds, including High Dividend Yield, Covered Calls, Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs), preferred stock, and REITs. Todd Rosenbluth from ETF Trends will also weigh in with his thoughts – all on ETFEdge.cnbc.com.
On the heels of my interview with ARK Invest's Cathie Wood at the Exchange ETF conference last week, where I expressed amazement that her flagship fund was down 45% year over year yet the shares outstanding has not changed, her loyal fans remain committed. The ARK Innovation ETF brought in $450 million in inflows over the past week, making it among the top 10 ETFs in terms of gaining investor capital, according to ETF Trends.
I had Dave Mazza, Head of Product at Direxion, on ETF Edge this week to talk about his upcoming suite of leveraged/inverse single stock ETFs. While we are waiting for those to be approved by the SEC, Direxion also announced plans for six new commodity ETFs: Direxion Lumber Strategy ETF, Direxion Copper Strategy ETF, Direxion Corn Strategy ETF, Direxion Soybeans Strategy ETF, Direxion Coffee Strategy ETF, and the Direxion Breakfast Commodities Strategy ETF (which combines corn, coffee, lean hogs, sugar, orange juice, and wheat). All invest in futures contracts. It's a crowded field. Competitor Teucrium already has a broad suite of agriculture ETFs.
Samsung gets deeper into the ETF game. Samsung Asset Management is the largest fund manager in South Korea. They have acquired a minority stake in US ETF provider Amplify, which runs 15 ETFs in the US, including the Amplify Transformational Data Sharing ETF (BLOK). It will be Amplify's exclusive distributor in Asia.
