Our latest Housing News podcast is a discussion around a topic near to my heart — the challenges veterans face when trying to exercise their VA benefit to buy a house. In this episode I talked to Grant Moon. He's the CRO at Volly, but more importantly for this discussion, a veteran who served in Iraq and has been an advocate for veteran homebuyers ever since he got back.
As an Army brat married to a veteran, I've benefited from the VA loan several times. Unfortunately, in a competitive housing market, buyers using a VA loan are at a significant disadvantage in a bidding war, and there's no easy fix.
I talked with Moon about the outdated ideas some real estate agents have about VA loans, but also some of the very real hurdles that are still a part of the process. We landed on some potential solutions, both from an industry standpoint and what could be done at the federal level.
I know many of you are also passionate about helping vets or vets yourselves and I'd love to hear what you think of the discussion and the potential solutions. You can always reach me at swheeler@housingwire.com.
